The SINAG Cagayan Valley successfully hosted the SINAG Technology Pitch: “Paving the Way for Technology Commercialization” on March 13, 2024, at the Claude Convention Center, CSU-Andrews Campus, Tuguegarao City. This event highlighted the vital role of technology commercialization in transforming research innovations into real-world solutions that benefit industries, communities, and the economy.

With its central theme, “Paving the Way for Technology Commercialization,” the activity created an avenue for local innovators to present scalable and market-ready technologies. By connecting researchers, evaluators, and potential investors, the platform supports the journey of laboratory-developed technologies toward becoming viable products that enhance regional and national competitiveness.

The morning session opened with discussions on entrepreneurship and commercialization. Prof. Jeremiah S. Gonzaga, Project Staff of SINAG Cagayan Valley and CSU faculty member, led the session on Business Models, providing researchers with essential frameworks for building viable enterprises. Atty. Norman Clarence T. Lasam, Director of CSU’s Intellectual Property Management Office, discussed various Technology Commercialization Mechanisms. Meanwhile, Ms. Marilyn L. Sagala, COO of the Cooperative Bank of Cagayan, and Ms. Alice P. Quienes, Account Officer of LandBank of the Philippines – Cagayan Lending Center, shared insights on Banking Support Services for technology-driven ventures.

In the afternoon, Dir. Enrico C. Paringit, Executive Director of DOST-PCIEERD, delivered an inspiring keynote message emphasizing the need to transform scientific breakthroughs into solutions that directly improve people’s lives. He encouraged researchers to cultivate an innovation-for-impact mindset, build resilience when facing entrepreneurial challenges, and actively seek investor engagement. He highlighted the government’s role in providing support and mitigating risks as innovators move toward commercialization.

A total of eleven (11) presenters from various Cagayan State University campuses showcased their technologies. Their pitches were evaluated by a distinguished panel composed of Dir. Enrico C. Paringit, Ms. Raquel B. Santos (DOST Region 2), Ms. Ragel D. Tacazon (DTI Region 2), Engr. Magdalena D. Gomez (DICT Region 2), Ms. Marilyn L. Sagala, and Mr. Julian Arnel Paulo Z. Sia (Philippine Network of Angel Funders). The panel provided constructive feedback and recommendations to strengthen the technologies’ market readiness and commercial appeal.

Engr. Magdalena D. Gomez shared her optimistic view of the technologies presented, emphasizing their potential to contribute to the region’s economic growth. She noted that with the support of agencies like DTI and DOST, these innovations can be further refined and adopted on a wider scale. Likewise, Ms. Raquel B. Santos highlighted the ingenuity of Filipino researchers and encouraged investors and stakeholders to continue supporting locally developed, cost-effective technologies.

The SINAG Technology Pitch successfully fostered a collaborative environment geared toward innovation and commercialization. By equipping researchers with business insights and providing a platform to present promising technologies, the event marks a significant step in advancing the innovation ecosystem and bringing transformative solutions closer to industries and communities.
